A big sponsorship for a company getting financial rescue. *US authorities decided on an emergency loan to the American International Group (AIG) and placed it under government control. The Federal Reserve Board (FRB) on September, with the full support of the Treasury Department, authorized the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to lend up to billion to AIG under section 13(3) of the Federal Reserve Act. The secured loan has terms and conditions designed to protect the interests of the US government and taxpayers. In return, the federal government will receive a 79.9% stake in the company. The loan is expected to be repaid from the proceeds of the asset sales. However, three weeks after an billion bailout, AIG is turning to the New York Fed for additional funding and on November the FRB and the US Treasury announced the restructuring of the government's financial support to AIG in order to keep the company strong and facilitate its ability to complete its restructuring process successfully. The US Treasury announced that it will purchase billion of newly issued AIG preferred shares under the Troubled Asset Relief Program. AIG chief executive Edward Liddy, who was installed by the Federal Reserve after the bailout, was optimistic about the potential for the asset sales. 2008年9月17日（水）大引けのTOPIXは1121.43ポイントの3.86ポイント高、日経平均は11749円の140円高。東証1部の値上がり銘柄数は994、値下がり銘柄数は647。出来高は22億5953万株、売買代金は2兆3151億円。 米連邦準備制度理事会（FRB）が16日夜に、資金繰り難に陥っていた世界最大手の米保険会社AIGに対し、最大850億ドル（約9兆円）のつなぎ融資を実施することを発表しました。 証券会社のリーマンブラザーズは救済しませんでしたが、保険会社は一般消費者に近い存在なので、経営破綻は看過できないで否定的な公的資金を使った救済に動いたことが安心され、日経平均も反発しました。
